Getting started with Moto Mesh Pro
You have a group to run. This is how to get your riders into it, what they will see, and what to do when something does not go to plan. Ten minutes, start to finish.
Get the app
Android: on Google Play (search Moto Mesh Pro), or directly from moto-mesh.com/get. They are the same build, byte for byte, and the app keeps itself up to date either way. You never manage versions.
iPhone: a proper iPhone app is in the works. Today an iPhone can open the invite link in the browser and listen in on the ride, but the full riding experience is Android-first. If your group is mixed, tell us · it helps us prioritise.
You are the owner. Your riders are not.
Two kinds of people use Moto Mesh, and the difference matters more than anything else on this page.
You signed up with an email address. You own the group, you decide who is in it, and you sign in with a code sent to your inbox. You never need a password.
Your riders never sign up for anything. No account, no email, no password. They tap a link or an NFC tag, type the name they want to be called on the ride, and they are in. That is the whole of it.
This is deliberate. A rider who has to create an account before a Sunday ride will not create an account, and you will end up riding alone with a very good app. Everything below follows from keeping their side of it to one tap.
Create your group: open the app; the first time, it asks you to name your group. Call it whatever your riders call it · Sunday Riders, The Rollers, Tuesday Night · because that is the name they will see when they join. That is all the setup there is.
Invite your riders
Settings, then Invite riders. It is the first thing at the top, because it is the first thing you need. You get a link. Send it however you already talk to your group: WhatsApp, SMS, Messenger, a club forum.
One link works for everybody. Send it to the group chat and let them all use it.
It expires · 24 hours by default. On purpose: a link that lives forever ends up in a screenshot on a forum, and then strangers are on your intercom. When it expires, make another · one tap. If you keep a tag on the tank or in the clubhouse, you can give tags a longer life in Settings.
An NFC tag works the same way. A rider taps their phone to it and lands in the same place as the link.
Once a rider is in, they are in: their phone remembers the group on its own, and the link's expiry never matters to them again.
If a rider has not installed the app yet, the link offers it to them first, then brings them back to the join. They will need to tap the link a second time after installing, because the install happens outside the browser and the app comes up fresh. That second tap is normal.
What your riders see
Worth knowing, because they will ask you and not us.
They open the link. It says who invited them and asks for a name. They type it. They are in the group.
Then the app asks for microphone, location and notifications. All three matter: the microphone is the intercom, the location is how you see each other on the map, and notifications are how the app stays alive in the background.
If the microphone was declined, or another app is holding it, the app says so the moment they join · a clear message, not a silent failure. And anyone can prove their microphone and headset in half a minute: the GPS chip, then MICROPHONE TEST · three steps, works with a helmet headset connected, and the result can be copied and sent to you with one tap.
They never see a group key, never type a password, and never make an account. If a rider is ever asked for a group key, something has gone wrong. Tell us.
The first ride
Everyone joins the same room. You will see each rider appear as they connect, and their position on the map once their phone has a fix.
The intercom is on or off. No button to hold while you speak. Tap it on and the group hears you; tap it off and they do not. If you would rather it came on by itself the moment you join a ride, there is a setting for that.
A helmet headset paired over Bluetooth is worth having. A phone speaker inside a helmet at 80 km/h is not.
Plan a route before you leave, not at the lights. Ask for a loop, pick one you like, press start. Everyone in the group sees the same route and the same turns. If you divert, the app rebuilds and follows you.
Or just say it. Press ASK and speak · "take me to a pizza place", "give me a curvy 100 kilometre loop" · and the route builds itself. On the Android app you do not even need to press: say "moto" and then what you want.
The ride leader leads. When you start navigation, your riders get your route on their screens. If someone else needs to lead, hand over.
How many riders you get
| Riders at once | Groups | |
|---|---|---|
| Trial | 5 | 1 |
| Touring | 10 | 1 |
| Club | 15 | 3 |
The rider count is at the same time, not in total. Fifteen people can be in your group; the plan limits how many are on a single ride together.
If a rider is turned away because the group is full, that is the cap and not a fault. On the trial in particular, six friends will not fit. Write to [email protected] and we will sort it out for the trial period.
When something is wrong
A rider cannot get in. Ask them exactly what they see. "It does not work" and "it says the group is full" are different problems and one of them is not a problem at all. If they are stuck at a screen asking for a group key, that is a fault at our end and we want to hear about it the same day.
A rider joined but nobody can hear them. Have them run the microphone test (the GPS chip, then MICROPHONE TEST) and send you the result · it names the problem in plain words: permission denied, wrong microphone, or a headset connected to something else. Failing that, close the app fully and reopen it.
Somebody appears twice, or drops when another rider joins. Two devices using the same name. Names have to be unique in a group.
Someone should not be in the group any more. You can remove a rider without touching anyone else, and without changing anything the rest of your group uses. Their device loses access; nobody else notices.
The app updates itself. You do not need to do anything. If you are ever asked to reload mid-ride, say no and finish the ride first.
Getting help
Write to [email protected]. It reaches a person, not a queue. Some of our emails · receipts, codes · come from senders that do not take replies, so hello@ is the address to keep.
Tell us what happened rather than what you think caused it. "Three riders opened the link on Saturday morning and none of them got in" is worth more than any diagnosis, because we can look up exactly what the server saw at that moment and tell you what actually happened.
The short version: get the app · name your group · Settings, Invite riders, send the link · they tap it, type a name, allow microphone and location · plan a loop (or ask for one out loud), press start, ride. If the join does not work for someone, that is on us. Tell us that day.
